First-Ever Knitted Stamp UnveiledKaren and stamp afghan
During People Mover Knit-Around
The Postal Service hosted a ceremony to unveil their newest stamps, "Holiday Knits." But there's a twist - the enlargement isn't a poster, it is a knitted likeness of the stamps, super-sized. The enlargement, designed and knitted by nationally recognized knitting expert and City Knits owner Karen Kendrick-Hands, is the only one of its kind in the nation and was at center stage for this unique event. "When the Postal Service called to see if I was up to the challenge of knitting the enlargement for the unveiling ceremony it was easy to say yes - I'd already started one," laughed Kendrick-Hands (right). "As soon as I saw the stamps I knew they would make a perfect afghan and I picked up my needles and started the design." Click here to read the October 31 Free Press article

Pieceworks
Trunk Show

To introduce  "Pieceworks"  Interweave Press Traditional needlearts publication, City Knits is hosting a trunk show of historic knit and crochet items from the past year's magazines. Come admire the detailed reproductions of bygone days. Piece works places the needlearts in both historic and geographic context as well providing clear project instructions. We are excited to add it the other publications we offer at City Knits.

We welcome two new employees to the Guardian shop: Desiree and Stefanie. Desiree (Desi) is a somewhat new to knitting (she learned to knit with us, so she is a driven perfectionist who has mastered all of the introductory skills. Stefanie is a long-time knitter and crocheter who is also a bead artist. We hope you will stop by and welcome them into the community. Lunchtime lessons continue on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30-2:00PM, $6.00 per ½ hour of instruction.
